Start/Finish - Cross Keys Pub

Continue up Pobgreen Lane keeping left but before reaching the end take the right turn that runs in front of the house.

Continue along this until you see a row of houses in front. Walk in front of the houses and you will see the grass path in front of you. Keep to the right of the fence.

Pots and Pans Circular - start grass path

The route now traverses the hillside. Continue along this path crossing any gates and stiles. Take some time to take in the great views of Uppemill, Diggle and Delph, below and behind you.

Pots and Pans Circular - cross stiles

The start of the grass path - keep to right of fence.

The path goes in front of the houses.

Cross any stiles and take in the great views.

You will eventually see a farmhouse in front of you. This is the point you will begin the climb to Pots and Pans.

Pots and Pans Circular - begin climb to Pots and Pans

At the farmhouse the climb to Pots and Pans begins.

There are a confusing number of paths up to the monument from this point. We recommend the path that goes up via a quarry. Keep to the left of the farmhouse and find the path going up in a shallow gulley.

Pots and Pans

You made it. Spend some time exploring the Pots and Pans monument and the incredible views.

The obelisk commemorates Saddleworth's losses in the two World Wars. This fine monument can be seen from the valley and offers a wide panorama west towards Manchester and beyond. Close to the obelisk is the 'Pots and Pans stone'. This has a number of natural circular cavities which some say look like cooking utensils, which can only be seen by clambering up on to the stone.

When refreshed make your way down on the path directly in front of the obelisk. Take care here it is very steep and easy to slip, particularly if damp.
